Welcome to the Čeština v pohodě page

We help foreigners learn Czech in a practical, clear and stress-free way. Our lessons focus on real life — work, offices, everyday communication, school, exams and common daily situations. We use pictures, humour, simple explanations and practical examples to make learning Czech feel more natural. Every person is different, so we try to adapt the lessons to each student’s needs, pace and situation. The lessons also include support with overcoming the fear of speaking and with better understanding Czech life, customs and everyday communication. You can arrange an individual meeting, a lesson for a small group of friends, or an online consultation. Czech does not have to be stressful. We will help you feel more confident and calmer in the Czech Republic.

For more shy people, it is often more comfortable to learn in a small group with a friend, partner, or colleague. On the other hand, people who want faster progress can choose individual lessons.

Every person needs a different approach

Some people mainly need calm, patience, and a safe environment without stress or pressure. Others want a faster pace, more grammar, and more systematic lessons because of work, school, or exams. That is why we try to find a way of teaching that suits you personally. We help people overcome the fear of speaking, feel more confident in the Czech environment, and gain confidence in everyday communication. We do not teach only vocabulary, but also practical situations that people really encounter in the Czech Republic.

Are you afraid of your first Czech lesson? You don’t have to be.

Many people postpone learning Czech simply because they are worried about the first lesson. They are afraid they will not understand, will not be able to respond, or will make mistakes. This is completely normal. That is why we offer every new student a short introductory meeting for free, lasting approximately 20 minutes. It can take place in person or online. The goal is not testing or evaluation, but to find out how we can best help you.

How does the first meeting work?

The first meeting is a simple introductory conversation that takes place in the way that is most comfortable for you – speaking, simple sentences, pictures, or with the help of translation. The goal is to find out in which situations you currently need Czech the most and what is most important for you to handle first. Everyone living in the Czech Republic uses Czech in different situations – at work, at offices, at the doctor, at school, and in everyday life. Together we quickly identify where Czech limits you the most, and based on that we suggest the next learning steps.

How does it work for complete beginners?

If you barely speak Czech yet, that is not a problem at all. You can write to us in your native language or in very simple Czech. We will translate your message and understand it. During lessons, we can also use translation tools whenever needed. Before the meeting, we can send you simple pictures and basic texts with translations into your language. The Czech part is always carefully prepared; translations are only for quick orientation. During the first lesson, we work with pictures, simple sentences, and real-life situations. You do not need to know grammar or have speaking experience. We always adjust the pace to you. Today it is a great advantage that basic communication can be translated immediately, so we can focus mainly on practical situations.

What if I already speak a little Czech?

In that case, the introductory meeting is very quick and direct. During a short conversation, we will find out where you feel uncertain in Czech and what you want to improve. It may be conversation, vocabulary, exam preparation, or work-related communication.

Online and in person

Lessons take place both online and in person in Šumava. Materials can be sent electronically or used directly during the lesson. We create an environment where it is okay not to know something or to make mistakes. Mistakes are a natural part of learning.

You don’t have to decide immediately

After the introductory meeting, you can calmly decide whether our teaching method suits you. If yes, we will arrange further lessons. If not, you will at least get a clear idea of how Czech lessons can look.

What follows after the 20-minute introductory session?

If you decide to continue with us, simply write to us when you would like your next lessons. If we have available capacity, we will be happy to adapt the schedule to you. We also teach in the evenings. Once we agree on specific times, we will send you payment details. After payment is confirmed, we can look forward to regular lessons and gradual Czech learning tailored to your needs. In our offer, you can also choose a type of lesson that suits you and simply “add it to the cart”. In that case, a payment request will be sent automatically. However, the exact lesson time must always be arranged individually in writing, so that it fits both your availability and our schedule. We also teach in the evenings and try to adapt to your time options.

Learn Czech faster, more fun, and through images!

Welcome to our Czech language learning card collection. Forget dry memorization of grammar from textbooks. Our card sets use the memory game (pexeso) principle, visual memory, and humorous real-life situations. They are ideal for families with children, groups of friends, and self-learners. We offer various thematic sets depending on the number of words, as well as special pocket cards for selected professions. With our cards, you engage more senses and you will see that progress in Czech comes much faster and more naturally than simply looking at a phone screen.

Why is learning with picture cards more effective?

Modern research shows that simply scrolling through vocabulary on a phone or computer has low effectiveness. Our cards, on the other hand, engage touch, sight, and especially emotions. The illustrated situations are easy to understand, and thanks to humor, new vocabulary is remembered much more easily. In addition, you control the repetition frequency yourself — cards you still struggle with are simply shuffled into the deck more often.

Our offer

Picture memory games for beginners

Various-sized sets of basic vocabulary for everyday communication. A great game for families where parents can immediately see their children’s progress. Learning becomes shared fun and enjoyable time, not a boring obligation.

Pocket professional cards

Need Czech for work? We have prepared practical pocket-sized card sets for specific professions. On one side you find Czech text, on the other a translation (Ukrainian, English, or Vietnamese). We offer sets for: drivers, healthcare staff, kitchen, restaurant, and hotel workers, warehouse operators, machine operators and other professions.

Flexible use: at home and online

The cards are great for traditional home learning, but also perfect for online lessons. Teachers can send digital sets or show them via camera, instantly setting the topic of conversation and keeping the student engaged.

Bonus with every order: practical life sentences

Each set includes a printed list of practical sentences in Czech and a foreign language. This allows you to immediately practice vocabulary in real phrases, correct prepositions, verbs, and adjectives in real context.

Ecological and economic value

Our cards have lasting value. Once you master the vocabulary and no longer need the cards, you can pass them on to friends or resell them to someone who is just starting to learn Czech. Turn language learning into joy!

Who we are and how “Czech in Comfort” (Čeština v pohodě) began

We are a creative teaching duo — mother and daughter. For many years, we worked together and, under our online shop brand, created handmade floral decorations. But we have always been drawn to another world as well — the world of stories. We wrote two books, are working on a third, and started recording spoken-word audio so we could bring our literary work to listeners online.

A year ago, we made a major life decision. Out of our love for nature, we moved here to Šumava. Our new home became an old Šumava farmhouse that is possibly up to 300 years old. One of the main reasons we chose this place was the spacious workshop on the ground floor, where we planned to continue making our floral decorations. But then came a moment that unexpectedly changed the direction of both our life and our work.

Our Ukrainian neighbors invited us to visit the neighboring house where they were doing renovation work. They wanted to get to know us, and during the conversation they shared that in three months they would face an important Czech language exam. This exam would determine their future residence status, citizenship, and ability to legally run a business in the Czech Republic. We decided to help them and started tutoring them for free — simply as neighbors. In return, they gave us firewood for heating.

During this intensive experience, two key insights emerged:

We both deeply enjoy helping people “start speaking” Czech and watching their progress. Traditional teaching methods often stress foreigners. We noticed that even people who have lived in the Czech Republic for years and know many words still struggle with Czech prepositions and verb structures. During lessons we laughed a lot, they did too, and the atmosphere was very friendly. We enjoyed our meetings, and hopefully they did as well.

Our philosophy: Czech with a smile and in context

We left floral decorations in the past, but we transformed the former workshop into a cozy, calm, and original teaching space. Since we moved here only recently, we are still gradually settling in. However, we can already offer you warm drinks, homemade cakes or cookies, and a friendly approach. Based on the real needs of our first students, we developed our own system of illustrated learning cards and memory games. Our materials are visual, practical, often humorous, and designed so that students immediately connect vocabulary with real-life situations and spoken audio recordings. We want to help not only Ukrainians, who are currently the largest group here, but gradually also Vietnamese and English-speaking foreigners. Simply anyone who needs to learn Czech. We are happy to help anyone who needs support and treats us respectfully. We also gladly listen to your own story if you wish to share it.

Where to find us

We live and work in Šumava, only 4 kilometers from Vimperk. Our house is located right next to the main road toward Germany. It is easily accessible, with parking directly at the house, and right behind it begins a beautiful Šumava forest. Nearby is Mount Boubín, where you can take a walk and visit the place called the “Avenue of Reconciliation” or other beautiful spots.

We offer:

Individual lessons tailored to your needs Teaching for small groups of friends or families Practical conversational Czech focused on real life, work, and successful exam preparation

We believe that with our materials and human approach, you can learn Czech in a relaxed and comfortable way. Come and try a demo lesson!
